my plans of project- senior project

My area of interest is audio. That is a really big interest in my life; I just love music and electronics. I really don’t have a background in this area so I figure that the senior project would be a great time to learn more.

It will of course be dealing mostly with audio equipment. I will install speakers, speaker boxes, amplifiers, and the wiring into store displays. I will also create a great visual project with the knowledge I contain from my mentor. My mentor works at Advanced Audio in Gautier mall named Donald.

In my project I will tell how loud sounds effect the human ear. A corollary to building an audio system of some sort will be an interveiw with a hearing doctor. I will ask questions such as how does loud sounds effect the human, what are the statistics of loud noises hurting the human hear, and the disadvantages and advantages, etc. I will learn how to connect speaker to an amplifier, build a speaker box, and make the combo work properly. In my paper I will talk about speakers and electronics and also how these things may or may not hurt the human ear. I feel it will be great learning experience.

I fully understand plagiarism. I know it is when you take someone else’s writing or product and use it as your own. I know that you can have charged filed against you and you can possibly go to jail. I really hope this idea is as great to you as it is to me.

senior project

First off I would like to say that my senior project is going great. I feel that this was such a great idea. Even though my idea was disapproved I have really worked to make it much greater. My project will be in the area of audio and I have a lot of great ideas. To make it more of a learning stretch I will use a person with “ADD”. My resources will be Advanced Audio in the Gautier mall. I have my mentor and im ready to really complete this project in all. I have spent a little time with my mentor. Basically we talked about all our possible ideas. Which were really great. I plan to put a subwoofer in water and make it work. I also will explain why it is important to have music in your car. My other resources will be magazines, internet, and some really great books I have at home. I have started a lot of my research and have also started a little on my paper. Right now I am mostly focusing on how to get my idea approved. Because it is a really great idea and I would really hate to see something that is such a great opportunity for me to learn something new to go to waste. My progress is great my teacher is great. I just feel this is one of the best things MPHS could have done. All in all my project is going great and coming together perfectly. I just cant wait to show my accomplishments threw my research and the hard work that I put into my project.

It is now January 7th and things are pretty much on a role. Some things are still kind of rocky though. I have found a mentor and I am very happy with that. I have not spent any logged time with my mentor. His name is DJ, and we have sat down and talked about a lot of ideas and possible projects and ideas. We talked about how we would put a subwoofer in water and make it work. I think this is a very unique, project something I would love to do. We also will explain how we made it work and why it works. We talked of the things that I could do for extra electronic projects. These were some things that I could possibly add to our idea with the subwoofer and water. Also I plan to interview a hearing doctor to see the disadvantages and, if any, the advantages of loud music. And if loud music has ever been proven to harm or deafen the human ear in any way. As of now I really don’t see any disadvantages with me and my mentor meeting and our work together. Presently all I see is great ideas, products, and presentations. I see great success in what me and my mentor are doing.

The advantages and disadvantages of a mentor while doing my research for my paper are very evident. The advantages are that the mentor helps with research as well as your computer or any other book could. Me and my mentor of course talk a lot about the concept of how loud speakers can be. Surprisingly he knew a lot about what is too loud for your ears. He even had it broke down into amps and decipels to show how it could hurt hearing. Another advantage is that being with my mentor in general gives me a lot of general knowledge on how speakers work and the ends and outs of them. The disadvantages to the mentor during the research are of course time. But for me it is nothing that could stop me from completely my project. So at times it might be hard to work with the time that I have. But I take my time and work around my work and school schedule. I’m not going to let nothing stop me from graduating so I can say that there are really no disadvantages in this project. My research perspective was changed by my mentor. I say this because at first I was just going to explain the ends and outs of a subwoofer. But my mentor told me that this was something that most people know about. So he told me to tell people how the subwoofer or loud music could harm your ears. He also told me to explain how important and dangerous it is to have music in your car or vehicle. So basically my mentor told me to explain the advantage and disadvantages of music and how it could hurt your ears. Hey once again I’m back I know I know it’s been a while. So you ask me to describe my project, well it is of course a complete set up of subwoofers, speaker box, and amplifier. It will work properly as it is suppose to and to its full capability. It consists of two 15” Sony xploid speakers, and a 1500 watt amplifier. This project I would say is a somewhat outgrowth of my paper. I say this because it is not a perfect outgrowth to my paper. But I can say that my paper is about hearing loss. And loud sounds are one of the leading causes of hearing loss. And my project does exactly that. It is a perfect example of what volume not to listen. So I feel that my project is a perfect example of the sounds to prevent listening to. I’m happy that you asked that question because I feel that the completion of this project is a big relief. It gives me a great sense of completeness. I feel that the product was the major part of the project. Not including the research paper because that was also a major part of the project.

Well here it is the end of the road and the big decision maker. Well in assessing my self I can say that I did a good job but I didn’t do a great one. Yeah, I really could have done a whole lot better. My project still seemed to turn out great and it really brought out the best in me. If I would say I had strengths there would be many. My strengths would be that I was very self motivated. I say this because there was a lot of negativity around me about the senior project as a whole. My fellow seniors really didn’t like this idea. And a lot of them where really incouraging others not to do this project. But I was very motivated and dedicated to seeing my mentor, and work with him. I went straight down the checklist that we where given and knocked this project out. But there where also a lot of weaknesses that I discovered. I really procrastinated a lot, Im happy that we had to do this project. This project brung out so many of my weaknesses. I found that I need a lot of improvement to prepare for college work. I think my most major weakness was my dicipline. I really had to buckle down and make myself do things sometimes. At times I would find myself saying that I had time when in reality time was moving fast. I found that it is very easy to not do something that you think you have a lot of time to do. I just really had to focus on what I had to do and get it done. This was a great project. To me it was a project to really bring out the best in me before college. Im happy I had this project it really showed me things I didn’t realize I had in my attitude. It made me not only a better student, it also made me more mature.

how my project stretched me: senior project

There was a very big stretch for me in my project. First of all of course this project was a challenge because it was something I had never tried before. I had to learn everything from scratch. The process was very hard trying to learn all these different words that my mentor liked to us in his job profession. I took many risks with intrusting that my mentor was leading me in the right direction. As you know he was basically holding my graduation in his hands. Some other risk that I took where when I had to make big decision in order to finish my project. Sometimes I would have to choose my time with my mentor over my job. This sometimes was scary because I had to call in and we all know that manager hate people that call in. To overcome most of my problems was very easy. Such as trying to find time to be with my mentor after school and having to work with his schedule and mines. There would be times that he wasn’t at work and I couldn’t work with him. And there were times that I was at work and he was too. But to overcome these things was a no brainer. Whenever our schedules did iron out I was right there to jump in with him to work. One of my major problems was even finding a mentor. I did find one before the required deadline, but did it take some work.

Some other signs and symptoms are muffled quality of speech, difficulty understanding words, asking people to speak louder, turning up the volume on your radio, and avoidance of some social settings. To detect hearing loss early in children one should have their baby screened before they leave the hospital. If your child does not pass, there should be a follow up evaluation after 3 months.
In conclusion, hearing loss is something that can be very preventable. But it is something that people a lot of times ignore. If people clean and protect their ears hearing loss is very preventable. Also in research it was found that hearing loss is hereditary and sometimes there is only one solution which is a hearing aid. There are many different types of hearing loss and sound can be a very negative thing on the ears if it is allowed to be. Therefore, hearing loss can occur due to a lot of different things out of a person’s control.

One of the most important things to know is that your ears are very delicate. Tests have proven that when exposed to sound pressure above eighty-five decibels, it will damage your hearing, at parties or concerts you sometimes could experience TTS, Temporary Threshold Shift. This is when your ears become permanently damaged if this happens on a regular basis. If this does happen you will never hear correctly again. The only solution is a hearing aid (Clark, 1999).
It seems that there are many different ways for a person to get a hearing problem, but there are also ways to prevent and treat these problems. If wax builds up in the ear there can and will be a problem. Try and use mineral oil, baby oil, glycerin, or commercial ear drops to soften earwax, and make sure to clean your ears often (Danielson, 2005).
There are many ways to tell if ears are damaged. If a person tends to hear ringing in their ears, or if a person hears hissing, clicking, or buzzing sound this could be a sign of tinnitus. To prevent ear infection wash one’s hands frequently. Also try to get an influenza shot every year to fight off flu-related ear infections. Also make sure to protect the ears at work if there are loud sounds in the work area, try and have one’s hearing checked, and avoid recreational risks. Mp3 players and cd players are a great risk in teen’s hearing loss. Make sure to keep the volume low on your music, and when a person is involved in a loud activity, wear ear plugs.

Sound is a very unique process through the ear, so unique that the question how does hearing exactly take place is proposed. Well hearing occurs because of sound waves that reach the middle ear and vibrates the ear drum. Then the vibrations are made into nerve signals that the brain recognizes as sound. The risk factors that work against hearing are aging, loud noises, hereditary diseases, some medications, and some illnesses, such as an ear infection. Otitis Media is losing hearing due to ear infection. This can and will lead to permanent hearing loss if it is not treated. Some other causes could be the buildup of earwax, damage of the cochlea, and of course ear infections (Jefferies, 1998-1999).
NIHL or Noise Induced Hearing Loss is another great category of how hearing loss is obtained. Ten percent of Americans between the age of twenty and sixty-nine, which is about twenty-two million Americans, are affected by Noise Induced Hearing Loss, but Noise Induced Hearing Loss is totally preventable. You can protect your hearing by paying attention to noises above eighty-five decibels, which is the maximum point of decibels before hearing damage. These are things such as lawnmowers, snow blowers, motorcycles, firecrackers, and loud music. When engaging in any of those types of activities make sure you use some type of ear plugs (Clark, 1999).

Another major type of hearing loss is hereditary hearing loss. Of course you would assume that this always takes place at birth, but actually to the surprise of many it does not. Sometimes it shows up later in life, with gradual signs and symptoms. In otosclerosis which is thought to be a hereditary disease, and abnormal growth of structures in the ear that prevents it from working right. A head injury can also be a major cause of this hearing loss.
Hearing loss also comes in different forms. Hearing loss ranges from mild loss to total loss. Mild loss is when a person does not hear high-pitched sounds like a woman’s voice and children, total hearing loss which can also be born with. It also can come from disease, trauma, medication, or loud noises (Burke, 2007). There are also different infections that cause hearing loss. They are Meningitis, Mumps, Measles, Ear infection, and Scarlet fever which are rarely seen anymore.
Surprisingly medication is one of the major causes of hearing loss, even though it takes awhile for medication to harm your ear. It still can have a great impact on your hearing if you are not careful. Ototoxic is one of the medications with the capability to damage the inner ear. This could be very well permanent. This type of medicine can be found in antibiotics and even aspirin, so be very careful. Thankfully there are ways to prevent this medication from harming the ear. If a person just happens to take medication. Ask the doctor if it contains ototoxic and if it does, ask if other drugs can be taken. If not ask if the doses could be decreased (Bauman, 2000).

It can also be hereditary, caused by a head injury, infection, illness; certain drugs can also cause this. And it can be caused by circulation problems like high blood pressure (Karmody, 1983).
There are many different terms used in hearing loss such as, bilateral and unilateral hearing loss. Bilateral hearing loss is when both ears are affected. Unilateral hearing loss is when only one ear is affected. Symmetrical and asymmetrical hearing losses are some of the many. Symmetrical hearing loss means that the degree or amount of hearing loss is the same in both ears. An asymmetrical hearing loss is when the degree or amount of hearing loss is different in each ear. Progressive and sudden hearing losses are also two types. Progressive hearing loss is when hearing loss becomes increasingly worse over time. A sudden hearing loss is when an acute or rapid onset and therefore occurs quickly. This requires immediate medical attention to determine the cause and treatment. The last two are fluctuating and stable hearing loss. Well hearing losses change, sometimes getting better, sometimes getting worse. Fluctuating hearing loss is typically a symptom of conductive hearing loss. This is caused by ear infection and middle ear fluid, but also presents in other conditions such as Menierels disease (ASHA, 2000).

Hearing loss can occur due to many factors outside of an individual’s control. Sound can be a very negative thing to the ear. It is only negative if one allows it. There are three categories of hearing loss. They are sensorineural, conductive, and mixed hearing loss. Sensorinueral hearing loss is a permanent type of hearing loss. It occurs when there is damage to the inner ear or the auditory nerve (Hain, 2008). Conductive hearing loss is a type that fortunately can be medically corrected. This occurs when sound is not conducted efficiently through the outer ear canal to the eardrum and the tiny bones, or ossicles of the middle ear (Hain, 2008). Mixed hearing loss is the third type of hearing loss. This is a combination with conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. It is when damage is done to the outer or middle ear and in the inner ear or the auditory nerve (O’Reilly, 2006).Some other types of hearing loss are Tinnitus, Presbycusis, and hereditary hearing loss. Tinnitus is most common in the older adults. Tinnitus is the ringing, hissing, or roaring sound in the ears. This is something like a symptom so it can occur during any hearing loss, not only in Tinnitus. Presbycusis is the second type. This comes on gradually as a result of age. This happens because of changes of the inner ear, auditory nerve, middle ear, or outer ear. Other causes could be loud noises, such as mp3 players and car audio.

The group I served was really everyone. My project benefited everyone in the sense of just informing people of things that they didn’t know about sound. And how much it can not only harm but also benefit us. My product shows the in and outs of an audio system and how it works. I also contributed information about how loud is too loud. And what are some things to look for while trying to protect your ears. I think this project was mostly geared toward the teenagers. I say this because most of teenagers, as everyone knows, love to play music as loud as possible. This is even more so true since the mp3 players have hit the teenage market. It was especially geared toward teens with driver’s license. Because cause most teens have cars and they love to add as many subs to the car as possible. I am a great example because I have two of the second largest speakers in my truck. And to be honest they are the definition of what is too loud. My product shows speaker geeks what really puts the boom in your system, and what it takes for you to get that fine from the police. I think this project is a big awareness for the teenage population and it also is just a good “fyi”. If I was to grade myself I would give myself the grade of an 85. I say this because I feel that my product was great and very help full. But at the same time I think I could have been a lot more creative in making my product more helpful.

whats up everybody! im back again well i guess i could talk about midterm grades i guess they were ok for my first college semester. i had one "d" and one "c" the "d" was in nutrition and that class is really complicated to me. but i aint worried about it i know i will get it up because i dont plan to take any classes over again. i think im running out of stuff of things to say. i really think college is perfect for me because i am a very laid back. i really dont like to do much and i always have alot of free time. thats why i know i can bring that grade up to a better one. i just have to train myself to sit down and study during that free time. some times i feel that i just under estimate the material and just glance over it at the last minute, which everyone knows is not a good idea. but as i said in my last post i am ready for whatever and i will not stop until i reach my goal which is a degree. so i will do what ever it takes to make it in the college world. my parents said my midterm grades where straight but of course they said i needed to pull that d up. well my midterm week went smooth for the most part. i got to all my test on time and feel that i proformed fair well on all of them. well i guess thats it see yall later.

motivaton:NO MATTER WHAT

hey WATS up everybody. me, nothing really just trying to stay motivated Thur it all. i really feel that motivation is a very important thing. and it is needed in everything you do. and without it, it is almost impossible to accomplish anything. you must have the determination to do what ever you dream is. i mean i can say at times i feel a little down and it seems like i cant make. but this is my dream and it would be such a great accomplish for me if i get a degree. i feel that no matter how hard it is said to be no matter what anybody tells me. i know i will get a degree and live in the upper class of my peers. my dad has always stressed how important getting a further education is. i mean its just obvious the economy is low and we are in recession. and these days the only job you can get with a high school diploma is fast food and some clothing stores. i mean who knows in a couple of years you might need an associates degree to get a job at radio shack. i mean i want to feel like I'm on the top of the world. I'm not saying i want to be rich but i sure do want to be more than well off. i don't want any of my problems to be finances. that's why i found a major that i love to do and also some thing with a great job outlook. this world is not a easy place to be in the first place, and I'm sure its like hell if you are struggling from check to check. I'm not saying people who don't go to college are doomed, because there are many other things that you can do to be successful. for example my dad has never seen the inside of a college class room but he had a dream and is motivated and now he is a lieutenant at the police department. what i am saying is be motivated and have a dream. be about what you talk about!!!!!

the "P" word

hey everybody! whats been up with everybody. me I'm just chilling loving this college life. everything has been going OK i guess. college is turning out to be a lot more than what i thought it would be, but all the things are very positive. on my end of the field everything i going very well. my grades are a little shaky tho. i guess I'm still in my procrastination mode. i mean i have been turning everything in on time. but when it comes to my study habitats that's when the "p" word comes in to play. i can say that i have been doing a lot better tho. but i guess i just still slip up some times if you know what i mean. but i think I'm going to come out of that phase. i have to because that word it promised to doom my college career. but i am happy that i do notice my problems and acknowledge them. that is the first step to actually solving problems, so I'm believing that everything will work out perfectly.
